Meet the Team!

The three of us created this blog primarily to be a home base of sorts for our Magic: the Gathering team.  What team is that?  Well, you may have already seen it on the front page, unless you are on a mobile device, in which case you missed it.  Just in case...

We are the Lingering Souls.   We have lots of experience with the game, but are just now getting started in the larger tourney scene.  This is our journey!

I started playing Magic in 1995.  My first deck was an Ice Age starter deck that I played straight out of the box (5 colors FTW!).  Over time, I just kept cramming new cards into the same deck, with my favorite being Nicol Bolas, just because he was bigger than any of my friends' creatures.

I started playing tourneys a year or so later, and ran white weenie almost exclusively.  The only tournaments in the area were Type 1.5, which is now known as Legacy.  I hated the idea of Type 2 (Standard) at the time.  What, I have to change my deck every year?!

My first major tournament (as it was with all three of us) was Grand Prix Oklahoma City in 2013.  It was a Theros sealed event, and I played a blue/green tempo deck with my best card being Horizon Chimera.  Although I dropped after 7th round, I still had tons of fun, with the highlight being my 3rd round victory vs. Dusty Ochoa, who I had last seen playing the final round of Pro Tour Dragon's Maze.  I hope to take in many more GPs and events with my team and it will be chronicled here for you to see!

I also started playing Magic in 1995. I remember buying 4th edition and Homelands as it was released, man did I buy so much Homelands. The first tournament I remember playing in was during Mirage Type 2, I was 11 and Ash was 14, the average age of the rest of the field was 42 and the average weight was 250 lbs. I was playing my sweet Wg Griffin deck and I remember the majority of the guys there making fun of it and a few of them even cheated because they knew they could get away with it.  I vowed not to be that guy.

I am a long time green mage, that has splashed other colors over the years. I am a deck builder at heart, that decided he was going to take magic seriously about a year ago. Serious to me means that I was going to be the best I could be, with the amount of time I could devote to it. Magic is my fourth love after my beautiful wife and two extraordinary kids. My guild is Golgari, my shard is Jund and my wedge is Abzan. I am predominantly a Spike Vorthos but will always have Johnny urges. I am an avid limited player, leaning more towards draft. I am MTGO draft grinder and can usually figure out the format pretty quickly.

I came into the game in 2007, with the release of the original Ravnica block.  I played Gruul at the time.

My favorite tourney deck has been Gw Aggro for a while now.

I enjoy RANDOMNESS, with some of my favorite cards being Warp World, Scrambleverse and Ruhan of the Fomori.
